Ben Andrews is a member of the Salford alumni community. He plays a pivotal role in ensuring Salford and Greater Manchester are doing all they can to provide accessible physical activity for all.
The University of Salford approached us with the challenge of telling Ben’s story.
The university wanted to tell his story across various digital channels, aimed at engaging a range of audiences - from alumni to potential new students, staff and funders.
It was very important that any content we created was fully accessible, especially given the nature of Ben’s work.
As this was a very personal life story, it was important for us to meet Ben and understand him as a person. We wanted to build a good relationship with Ben from the start to ensure he was comfortable with us and we knew what he was comfortable sharing.
When we met with Ben and the client – we spoke about his life story from start to finish. It was clear from this meeting that Ben, whilst very modest, would be great on camera. And our role was to determine how we would tell the story, establish the key content and guide the process.
We advised on a documentary style video, suggesting the content we would include and carried out multiple site recces. We provided guidance on content and directed the 2.5 day shoot collecting all the required footage and audio across multiple locations, to complete this documentary style video.
We worked with accessibility specialists to add BSL (British Sign Language) and audio descriptions to the final cut. We then embedded captions to the video in house.

Our relationship with the client was great, and we were lucky enough to be invited to the Alumni Awards where Ben was celebrated as a rising star.
The initial feedback on the video has been fantastic – it has prompted a real and emotional response.
We also provided a teaser version for the client to share on their social media channels to help build momentum ahead of the release of the full video. We also provided a faster-paced social media edit.
