The challenge

The University of Salford's Architecture and Architectural Design department wanted to provide their students with a high-end printed book that showcased all their hard work during their time at Salford.

The solution

The book predominantly featured work created by students. By taking the client's brief and digging a little deeper, we determined that stripping back the content and design features with minimalism in mind allowed the students' work to take centre stage. And the university agreed.

Eluding to the University of Salford brand with stylish and subtle references, we used the students' work to guide the layout of each page.

We proposed a variety of orientations and sizes of images and designed a layout grid which provided clear guidance and worked in all instances.

Finally, we provided clear guidance on print finishes that worked in harmony and enhanced the design finish.

The impact

With the quality of the final product so high, the university promoted the brochure to be given to their architecture students at the most important event in their university career - their graduation ceremony.

The client is already looking at next year's edition of this high-end printed book.

“Eleven showed genuine interest and commitment to the project from the very beginning. The final product is something that we value highly and that our students presented proudly to their family at graduation this year. All in all, should the opportunity arise, we will work with Eleven again.”

+1

In many cases, Eleven looks at how adding elements can enhance a user experience, but for this project it was the opposite. Simplifying and stripping back the design meant the content we were showcasing could shine and get the credit it truly deserved.

By following this approach, we created a simply yet innovative solution to the university's request.
