The University of Huddersfield had to temporarily close its doors over a number of months to students as part of the nationwide lockdown due to Coronavirus. We were asked to write and produce an animation reassuring the students and staff of the safety measures in place at the University, for when they returned to campus in September 2020.
The University was creating a suite of Coronavirus safety measures that they were introducing to the campus, and these all followed the same style as the Government’s Coronavirus visuals. So the animation needed to incorporate this in an effective and visually engaging way.
We created the animation in a style we’ve established previously for the University and used for a number of years, whilst incorporating the Government colours and styles.
As the official Government’s guidance changed so frequently and to mitigate a huge amount of cost for multiple animations, we wrote the animation in chunks so it would be easy to create snippets and amend them in accordance with the everchanging guidance.
As the animation was going to be played on screens at the university, which don’t have sound, all the information on screen in the animation needed to be easy to understand.
As the University needed the animation to be complete before they re-opened and needed to be included in email communications sent out in readiness for September, we worked to extremely tight deadlines to complete this animation for the University.
We wrote the animation script in chunks so we could create snippets.
We incorporated the Government colours and styles with the university's brand guidelines.
We emailed the animation to students and staff before the start of term, meaning parents and others would be aware of the adjustments for the coming academic year.
The University staff, including senior management, were very pleased with the final animation.
We suggested we make use of the assets created across other channels, so we created 10 Instagram stories templates which are still being used now. We also worked with the client to deliver two animations in the time it would usually take to create one.
The second animation gave further information on Coronavirus safety guidance at the University, providing specific instructions for staff and students to follow upon returning to campus.
