Lancaster university campus in the city
Each year, Lancaster University holds their annual Campus in the City festival to bring local people, academics and students together through exciting, fun and educational activities for all ages. As part of the event, the University opens a pop-up shop in the city centre.
The client required a new visual identity for the initiative, as well as a suite of collateral. The collateral included banners, posters, signage, merchandise, booklets and folders.
We started by leading a project kick-off meeting with the client to ascertain exactly what the requirements of the project and associated timescales were. Given that there were some immediate and immovable deadlines we produced a project plan detailing when we required content from the client and when they could expect design proofs for review/ approval – enabling both parties to manage their time effectively and keep the project on track.
The client wanted the Campus in the City identity to be unique, so that it would stand out and engage the general public, but also recognisably Lancaster University branded.
Taking the university's secondary colour palette, we produced a colourful logo and identity that could be applied to a wide variety of assets. It was particularly important to ensure that the logo was effective in both large and small formats.
In order to deliver a distinctive, flexible and cost-effective solution to the fit out of the pop-up shop, we proposed using modular cardboard displays rather than the normal fixed window stickers and ceiling hangers, traditionally used for the event. Not only was this a more sustainable solution, but it also meant that the client was able to use the panels repeatedly, giving them better ROI and the identity longevity.

All the collateral was delivered on time and the festival was a great success – attracting more visitors than the previous year.
We managed the fit out of the pop-up shop from start to finish – including the design and production of the event collateral, as well as the install and de-rig of the pop-up shop in the city centre.
This gave the client complete peace of mind and enabled them to focus on the content of the programme.
