Huddersfield university surge
SURGE (Centre for Sustainability, Responsibility, Governance and Ethics) is a collection of research bodies.
We were asked to create a logo which represented the pride, togetherness, community and responsible business practices at the centre of the SURGE ethos.
We worked with our client to distil their requirements for the logo initially in a briefing workshop before we commenced work. This was to ensure we started off on the same page and immersed ourselves in the brand. Together we identified that a more complete identity would deliver the best solution.
The identity needed to work within the University of Huddersfield Business School guidelines.
We adopted the fonts and colourways and created a new graphic style which complemented the existing brand, whilst also being recognisable on its own.
To help direct our client's thinking, we first provided a selection of initial logo sketches. Once we had a clear understanding of their preferences, we formalised the identity - presenting two fully formed concepts.

We provided the client with a selection of initial sketches before formalising the finished identity.
The logo and style guides were very well received. Our client was very happy with the outcome and we delivered the logos on time and within budget.
Although new to the creative process, our client was extremely interested and keen to understand our approach. We broke our creative process down into small steps and talked the university through each stage, ensuring they understood the rationale behind each decision and were able to communicate this to colleagues internally.
The university was very grateful for the time and effort we put into this, and the flexibility we were able to provide in showing some experimental options right from the start of the project.
